Introducing: Mission Possible

One of the most common limits faced by innovators is the nagging fear that way they are trying to do may just be impossible. There are too many obstacles, not enough resources, too much standing in between them and where they want to be. This fear causes leaders to stall until the moment seems right, or all the pieces are in place, which can pretty quickly turn “someday” into “never.”

What if we could embrace the obstacles in front of us, not with fear, but with playfulness? What if we could see each one as an invitation into further and further creativity? This line of thinking is behind a lot of Ministry Incubators’ games, especially Blow Up Your Idea, and our newest offering takes it to the next level. 

Ministry Incubators is excited to introduce their newest product, Mission Possible, now available via Mission Possible is brought to you via a partnership with our friends at Rooted Good, an organization dedicated to creating resources and processes to help faith leaders “align money and mission, reclaim their relevance in a changing world and be the Church the world needs today.”

This is a resource we’ve had our eye on for a long time, and we are so excited to be adding it to the box of tools that you can access for your church. Mission Possible is a game meant to help teams be creative, resourceful, and collaborative, taking on the questions of innovation in a fun, low-stakes way. Rooted Good tells this story about the game’s development:

Have you ever sat through a power-point presentation intended to teach creativity, where the gap between method and content is so ridiculously wide that it seems embarrassing for everyone involved? (Please note: images of lightbulbs don’t help). This was the conundrum we faced …How does an individual speaker with a laptop communicate a process based on collaboration, empathy, and creativity? Our solution: don’t even try.

Rooted Good instead built a game that would teach design thinking “through play and experience.” Players are dealt hypothetical resources, obstacles and opportunities to allow them to think creatively in a no-stakes environment before tackling any of their own contexts. This medium-is-the-message thinking invites participants to let down any preconceived notions of how it should work and breaks open new ways of thinking. The game introduces design thinking by forcing participants to do it themselves. 

I’ve played the game myself, and can attest that it is a fun, beautiful, thoughtful game, and that if you’re a fan of any of our other games (Ripple Effect, Whoopsie!, Blow Up Your Idea) you will love Mission Possible.
